The Summer Fun Program for keiki on Oʻahu will return to full capacity this year, the Honolulu Department of Parks and Recreation announced Monday. Face masks will be voluntary.

With 9,000 keiki expected to attend, the department has put out a call for 500 staff members. The city says workers will earn a minimum of $15 per hour.

Summer Fun will be held weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. beginning Monday, June 6 through Friday, July 22 — excluding holidays on June 10 and July 4.

Children must be 6 years old before Aug. 1 and not older than 13 years old by July 22. Volunteer Junior Leaders must be 13 years old before Aug. 1 and no older than 17 years old by July 22.

Registration will be conducted in person at each Summer Fun site on Saturday, May 14 from 9 a.m. to noon. The registration fee is $25 per keiki with an additional activity fee of no more than $100 for sites that offer extracurricular activities such as an excursion to Kualoa Regional Park. Accepted forms of payment are cash and checks made payable to the “City and County of Honolulu.”

Prospective volunteer Junior Leaders should contact the specific site for registration information.
