The University of Hawaiʻi will continue requiring face coverings in some indoor educational settings even after the state lifts its indoor mask mandate on March 25.

As of March 26, face masks must be worn indoors in classrooms, shared laboratories, other instructional spaces, and tightly confined spaces such as advising offices.

The university said face masks will not be required in some situations including common areas such as bathrooms and lobbies, eateries, libraries and bookstores.

Masks will not be required at indoor events such as commencement, athletic and performing arts events, campus tours and field trips.

UH said event organizers can request masking if the number of attendees is close to the maximum capacity.

The guidelines, which apply to all 10 campuses, will remain at least through the spring semester.
