The Office of Hawaiian Affairs Board of Trustees selected Mililani Trask of Hilo to serve as the interim OHA Trustee for Hawaiʻi Island.

Trask is a lawyer and Native Hawaiian rights activist who has served the Hawaiian community for decades.

For more than 30 years, Trask served as the executive director of the Gibson Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to assisting Native Hawaiians with homeownership.

She was chosen over Maunakea activist Lanakila Mangauil and Hawaiʻi County housing specialist Kaloa Robinson to replace former OHA trustee Keola Lindsey, who resigned in February.

Trask will serve until the general election on Nov. 8.
