Maui drops booster vaccination requirement for restaurants, bars and gyms

As of Monday, restaurants, bars and gyms on Maui will no longer be required to ask for proof of a COVID-19 booster shot from patrons.

Instead, Maui County is changing its emergency rules to say it recommends that they do so.

Mayor Mike Victorino said the change is a result of a drop in COVID infections, which has lessened the strain on the Valley Isle’s health care facilities.

Patrons will still need to show proof of vaccination for indoor dining and activities.

The county instituted the booster requirement on Jan. 24 as the omicron variant began to take hold in the state late last year.

The state reports 68% of Maui County is fully vaccinated.

Information on testing and vaccination sites across the state can be found at hawaiicovid19.com. For Maui-specific information, click here.
