A Hawaiʻi flooring contractor violated labor laws and owes over $100,000 in fines and backwages.

The U.S. Department of Labor’s Wage and Hour Division found that employees of Vladimir’s Marble & Granite Inc. in Honolulu were not paid for overtime.

The employer misclassified some employees as independent contractors — preventing them from receiving overtime pay for working over 40 hours a week.

Vladimir’s Marble & Granite Inc. owes over $100,000 in back wages and liquidated damages. The company must pay an additional civil money penalty of about $5,000.
