The Hawaiʻi Department of Health has confirmed two more Omicron variant coronavirus cases in the state – and it is urging people who may have been exposed to get tested.

Both cases were found in fully vaccinated Oʻahu residents who had not traveled outside of the state. They reported mild to moderate symptoms, and neither was hospitalized.

DOH has identified two possible points of exposure to mitigate the spread of the new variant.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has notified the health department that Hawaiʻi residents attended the New York City anime convention associated with Omicron cases reported in other states.

The department is also asking anyone who attended a Christ Embassy Hawaiʻi event on or after Nov. 23 to get tested for the coronavirus. DOH believes one person who has tested positive for the Omicron variant attended church events, which are held across Oʻahu.

“DOH only discloses case locations when there is an imminent risk to public health. Based on the findings of our investigation, we believe disclosure is warranted to prevent further transmission of the Omicron variant,” state epidemiologist Dr. Sarah Kemble said in a statement.
