84% of Hawaiʻi driver's licenses are Real ID-compliant — you'll soon need one to fly

Honolulu.gov

Real ID driver’s licenses will be required for domestic flights starting May 3, 2023.

The Real ID implementation was originally set for Oct. 1, 2020, but the pandemic pushed back the date by over two years.

About 84% of state-issued driver’s licenses in the City and County of Honolulu have the small gold star that signifies a REAL ID. Of the 638,026 state-issued driver’s licenses, 533,287 have secured Real ID status.

Driver Licensing Centers can have appointments booked for months in advance, and delivery for the card will take several weeks. It is advised to act quickly for a REAL ID license renewal.

O‘ahu residents can make an appointment at alohaQ.org.
