Workers who need help with their unemployment benefits will finally get in-person assistance starting next month.

The state Department of Labor and Industrial Relations announced that it will open its offices statewide beginning Dec. 1. Their offices have been closed to walk-in and in-person service since March 2020.

Help with all programs — including unemployment — will be available Wednesday through Fridays. Telephone appointments for unemployment services will continue on Mondays and Tuesdays.

In-person clients will be required to show proof of full vaccination or a negative COVID test.

Telephone appointments for the Pandemic Unemployment Assistance program and employer services will continue to be offered Monday through Friday.

The state labor department had originally planned on reopening its offices on Sept. 7, but it delayed the opening due to the surge in COVID cases during the summer.

Appointments can be made atlabor.hawaii.gov/ui/appointments/.
