If you have an expired driver’s license or state identification card, you now have another two months to renew it.

Gov. David Ige’s latest emergency proclamation has extended driver’s license and state identification card expiration dates to Oct. 4.

Since March 2020, more than 97,000 driver’s licenses, learner’s permits and state ID cards have expired and not been renewed on Oʻahu. Another 31,000 will expire by Oct. 4.

The federal government extended the REAL ID enforcement date to May 3, 2023. Current driver's licenses and state ID cards are valid for travel, with or without the star marking, until then.

Oʻahu residents can go to honolulu.gov/csd to make an appointment at a driver’s licensing center. Stand-by service is available but same-day service is not guaranteed.

Kauaʻi residents can book an appointment by going to kauai.gov/dmv.

Maui residents can visit mauicounty.gov for more information, and Hawaiʻi Island residents can go to hawaiicounty.gov.
