Here at Hawai‘i Public Radio, we continue to hear from residents across Puna on the Big Island. On Monday, our newsroom staffers spoke with people in P?hoa, Hawaiian Shores, and elsewhere in Lower Puna.
The picture that emerges is consistent and it is grim. Thousands remain without power, but many also continue to have problems with water, ice and transportation. We are hearing about people who can't get out of their driveways because of fallen trees blocking the way. Others have downed power lines in their areas that prevent them from getting to main roads. We are hearing from people who say their roads are not clear and that they are not able to move freely.
Later today we'll be following up on the situation in lower Puna and we'll have updates this afternoon on All Things Considered. If you live in the area and have access to email, you can tell us about your circumstances by dropping us a note at news@hawaiipublicradio.org or give us a call at 808-792-8250.
