Helping Hand is a weekly feature on HPR1 stations statewide Friday afternoons on All Things Considered. Each week, Helping Hand puts the spotlight on an organization or event in the community that offers assistance to the disabled and other folks in need. This week we’re learning about L?nakila Meals on Wheels, and how they help folks in the community in particular, about the upcoming Grandparents Day program. L?nakila Meals On Wheels joins us today, as All Things Considered host Dave Lawrence speaks with Lynn Moku, Director of L?nakila Meals On Wheels.
L?nakila Meals on Wheels are Hawai'i’s largest and only island-wide meal service for seniors. Bringing more than a nutritious meal, their team of volunteers also serves as a connection to other local services, helping seniors maintain their independence, in their own homes, with dignity, and offering a parallel group dining experience. All L?nakila Meals on Wheels meals are overseen by a registered dietitian. Meals are carefully tailored to their participants’ health needs and no one is turned away for inability to contribute.
