The Hui welcomes back cultural practicioners Lloyd Kumulā‘au Sing Jr. & May Haunani Balino-Sing. This workshop will teach participants how to start and finish a basket with a cover in the tradition of Hawaiian Basketry. Participants will learn how baskets were traditionally made with `ie`ie (Freycinetia arborea) and will explore the process from start to finish, including gathering of `ie`ie, preparation and cleaning of the rootlets, and the final weaving into beautiful various pieces such as hīna`i (baskets), hīna`i i`a (fish traps), mahiole (helmet) and ki`i akua (war god images).

Art with Aloha programs are supported in part by the County of Maui and the Office of Economic Development. Mahalo!
