Ti Leaf and Kauna'oa Lei Workshop

Ti Leaf and Kauna'oa Lei Workshop

Students will learn the hili method of lei-making, which is braiding or weaving of a single plant material– in this case ti leaf. Class participants will learn ti leaf preparation, the traditional hawaiian style of lei hili and the integral skill of placement of leaves and flowers between twists to secure them in the lei. Students will also learn to prepare the native Kauna'oa plant and then braid it and assemble the ti leaf and kauna'oa sections together to form one lei.

Class participants will leave the class with a beautiful, handmade lei. Students need to bring a pair of cutting clippers or scissors.
