September First Friday: Imprint

September First Friday: Imprint

Experience First Friday in Chinatown on a sunset walking tour through the Arts District and create your own original artwork!

Founded in 1928, Honolulu Printmakers has been supporting print in Hawai'i for over 93 years! As this historic organization prepares for its 94th Annual Exhibition, the Imprint tour celebrates Honolulu's unique expressions of print as a visual art form, a political weapon, and a chronicle of 'Ōlelo Hawai'i. Participants will learn about the history of print in Honolulu, encounter traditional and contemporary processes and publications, and create a print to take home.

Tours begin and end at Honolulu Printmakers, located in the Mark's Garage Building at 1142 Bethel St (formerly occupied by Louis Pohl Gallery). The hourlong sunset walk begins after a hands-on printmaking demonstration: participants can create a print on paper, or purchase 88 Block Walks tote bags to customize during the activity ($10 with tour ticket, $15 for additional bags).

First Friday starts at 5pm and most events continue until 8 or 9 so arrive early to find parking or do some exploring on your own before the tour, then stick around afterward to enjoy art, libations, and performances around Chinatown!

Tours continue rain or shine so please plan accordingly—bring jackets or umbrellas if weather suggests. Tours depart promptly at 6pm and will require approximately 55 minutes of walking. Please check in at least 15 minutes before departure.
