Bio:
Kathryn Waddell Takara, PhD, is an emerita professor, pioneer performance poet and activist, founder and CEO of Pacific Raven Press, and is still engaged in national projects and publications. She taught and developed Black Studies in the Ethnic Studies Department beginning in 1971 and later transferred to Interdisciplinary Studies where she continued to develop new courses including Africana Studies. A winner of the (BCF) 2010 American Book Award, she has 11 books of poetry and has published over 400 poems in literary journals and numerous academic articles. She is currently a writer, publisher of 20 plus writers, and traveling performance poet including China and West Africa since retiring from the University of Hawai’i.
