Many consider painting the figure both the root and the crown of artistic endeavor. Over the course of two days, Kona-based artist William Wingert will lead this class in painting the human figure with an emphasis on how to create depth or the illusion of space with oil paint. Students will review how the use of contrasts in edges, color, line and value provide the artists the ability to move the viewer's eye through the magic space of an illusion. To emphasize how important abstract design is to figure painting, Wingert will lead his students through a review of paintings from the great masters of art. Says Wingert, "It becomes an obvious necessity to also judge our own work from an abstract point of view, even though we are rendering a more or less realistic view of our model."

This is an intermediate level class, and students should come prepared with their own oil painting supplies. (Recommended equipment is listed on the website).
