Introduction to Sketch Comedy Writing

Introduction to Sketch Comedy Writing

This course is an introduction to the philosophy on sketch comedy, specifically using “the game” to write short comedic scenes. Each week, students will engage in writing exercises that will explore different sketch formats. Students will be exposed to different methods for turning funny ideas into even funnier written sketches! Students will leave the class with an understanding of popular sketch formats and a portfolio of writing.

No prior sketch writing experience is necessary. Students should have access to a computer, the internet, and be prepared to work outside of class. Required textbook included with class fee: Upright Citizens Brigade Comedy Improvisation Manual.

Local actors and improv comedians will perform a staged reading of class sketches on the final night of class, April 14th, for students and their invited guests.

Entrance:

The entrance is on South Street between Auahi and Pohukaina. Walk down small steps and follow the hallway to the left. Wheelchair-accessible entrance off of Pohukaina St.
