Dr. Walter Dudley is Emeritus Professor of Marine Geology and Oceanography at UH-Hilo, where he taught and carried out research for over 30 years about tsunamis.

Learning of Hilo’s history of devastating tsunamis that caused massive destruction and loss of life, he began focusing on the study of tsunamis. In 1994 he and tsunami survivor, Jeanne Johnston, founded the Pacific Tsunami Museum.

His passion to teach about the danger of tsunamis ultimately led to him appearing in over 30 television documentaries and writing 8 books about tsunamis.
