The young Aoi piano trio from Japan recently stunned the chamber music world by winning first prize at the prestigious ARD International Music Competition in Munich Germany. Their performances were so far ahead of the other competitors that the judges decide to award two third prizes, but no second prize. Their Hilo concert will include Haydn's delightful Trio No. 25 and Mendelssohn's Trio No.2, and a one-movement trio written by Dmitri Shostakovich when the Russian composer was only seventeen years old. They also will perform two short works by the London-based Japanese composer, Dai Fujikura.
