Evening Concert host Craig DeSilva, Miss Hawai‘i Teen Volunteer 2021 Sophia Stark, and Hawai‘i Symphony Orchestra Executive Director Dave Moss

Miss Hawai‘i Volunteer Teen 2021 Sophia Stark and Hawai‘i Symphony Orchestra (HSO) Executive Director Dave Moss join Craig DeSilva on Evening Concert to share about "Sophia's Symphonic Send-Off," a fundraiser for HSO and send-off for Sophia as she heads to Tennessee to compete in the national Miss Teen Volunteer America Pageant.

A winner of HSO’s Nā Hōkū ‘Ōpio “Young Stars” annual competition program for young musicians, Sophia shares about her family’s ties to the local performing arts scene, the Miss Teen Volunteer Pageant, and her future aspirations in the performing arts world.

The event takes place on Thursday, April 7, 2022 in Downtown Honolulu. Learn more at www.myhso.org.

This interview aired on Monday, April 4, 2022.
Evening Concert airs weekdays at 6 p.m. on HPR-2, your home for classical music.

Craig DeSilva is glad to be playing recorded music on the air instead of playing for a live audience on stage as did when he studied piano. He began piano lessons when he was a child and continued piano studies at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa (where he majored in broadcast journalism and minored in music) under the late Peter Coraggio.
