FILE - Sen. Sharon Moriwaki, chair of the Committee on Labor and Technology, at a hearing on Feb. 8, 2023.

Sen. Sharon Moriwaki is a veteran lawmaker of Waikīkī. She has long worked for a more impactful solution to the disappearing sand and beach of Waikīkī.

HPR talked to her about the coastal erosion impacting Waikīkī and the challenges her district faces.

She also brought up the need to address the Ala Wai Canal and Harbor. There are several proposals to address those challenges — but that will have to be a focus for another day.
