Hawaiʻi sweet tooths and baking aficionados get ready! Season Eight of Food Network’s "Spring Baking Championship" kicks off Monday at 6 p.m. Among the competitors is Carolyn Portuondo, head pastry chef at Disney's Aulani resort and a Punahou alum.

Her work was featured on TLC’s "Fabulous Cakes," she’s won dozens of awards, and she's owned a successful bakery in Las Vegas. So why did she accept the opportunity to compete against other bakers on national television? The Conversation spoke to Portuondo about her experience.
This interview aired on The Conversation on Feb. 28, 2022. The Conversation airs weekdays at 11 a.m. on HPR-1.
