The University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa's School of Ocean and Earth Science and Technology announced this week that Priscilla Chan and Mark Zuckerberg of Facebook are donating $50 million over seven years for ocean health and related research.

Chip Fletcher, interim dean of SOEST, spoke to The Conversation about how this will help Hawaiʻi deal with the impacts of climate change. He feels the need is urgent and is grateful as the gift will build on the good work of Hawaiʻi scientists already underway.

This interview aired on The Conversation on Jan. 21, 2022. The Conversation airs weekdays at 11 a.m. on HPR-1.
