Summer Internships Begin Remotely and In-Person for Hawaiʻi's College Students

Interns took center stage over the weekend when an HBO Max intern accidentally sent out a test email to the streaming service’s subscribers. But the internet rallied around the intern, with many sharing stories of their own internship blunders.

This moment of celebration and togetherness comes after a year of uncertainty. Many companies had to pause their internship programs during the pandemic, leaving students with few professional options.

The Conversation’s very own intern Matt Fairfax checks in on how internships are getting back on their feet with programs ranging from fully remote to fully in-person. Fairfax speaks with Heather Ryland, Senior Director of Talent Acquisition at Hawaiian Airlines, and Kelly Hwang, a UH Mānoa student and NASA intern.

This segment aired on The Conversation on June 22, 2021.

As HPR's 2021 summer intern, Matt Fairfax primarily worked with HPR's The Conversation.
