WAILUKU — The Maui county council is considering a resolution to settle a longstanding legal case headed for the U.S. Supreme Court over wastewater pumped into injection wells.

OOKALA — A Hawaiʻi dairy has discharged millions of gallons of stormwater and wastewater as part of a scheduled closure plan, officials said.

This week the nation's highest court announced it would hear a case concerning the discharge from a wastewater treatment plant in Lahaina. The case has potentially huge impacts for water pollution rules nationwide. At the center of the debate is how to regulate treated wastewater being injected underground.

Authorities in New Zealand are trying a new tactic to better understand patterns of drug use in the country. They’re testing the water — waste water from sewers. It’s been done elsewhere, but for New Zealand this is a different approach.
