Kai, for ocean, is another of those short, simple Hawaiian words used by so many who do not speak the language. It is part of many names such as: Kainalu, Kainehe, Kaiʻolu, Kaiʻoli, Kaioʻo, and even Hawaiʻi Kai. And it is often mispronounced.
