Hong Kong economy reeling from coronavirus

Johnson Choi, a Honolulu businessman and president of the Hong Kong-Hawai Chamber of Commerce, tells about weathering the economic turmoil in Hong Kong. A few months ago it was political protests. While those have quieted down, fears of the coronavirus have dealt another blow to the economy. Choi tells us about effects in Hong Kong and in Hawaii.

Elemental Excelerator wants startups solving climate change

Elemental Excelerator, the nonprofit startup accelerator, is looking for its next set of companies to help combat climate changes. Over the past decade, the nonprofit has funded $36 million to 99 startups. Dawn Lippert, CEO of the Elemental Excelerator, tells us more about the companies they're looking for. Former House Speaker eyes Honolulu City Council seat

Society of Professional Journalists seeks more members

The Society of Professional Journalists, Hawaii chapter, launched a drive to attract new members. Robbie Dingeman and Bill Sage tell us about SPJ Hawaii's Gridiron, the theatrical satire production featuring local communications professionals that skewers local newsmakers. Catherine Cruz is the Host of The Conversation and a member of HPR’s news team. She has been a television reporter in Hawai‘i since 1983 and has won a number of awards and respect from a statewide audience. She spent more than thirty years at KITV, covering beats from government to education and health. Originally from Guam, Cruz is also a co-founder and former Board member and programming chair of Pacific Islanders in Communication (PIC). Catherine is a graduate of San Francisco State University with a degree in Broadcast Journalism.
