The Conversation: Shark Expert Carl Meyer

Today we focus our attention on sharks. We go sleuthing for DNA clues for the predators. Who are the culprits stealing the catch of fishers? And what's on the high tech horizon? What are the emerging tools that researchers can use to understand the ecology of sharks?

And if you haven't seen yet the shark tracking maps of tigers around the main Hawaiian Islands, you'll be suprised how much territory they cover. What can we learn from the years of tiger shark tagging by scientists with the Institute of Marine Biology at Coconut Island? And what's the impact of stainless steel hooks on sharks? They can stay stuck on them for up to seven years.

Carl Meyer, researcher at the Hawaii Institute for Marine Biology at Coconut Island, joined us in studio for this hour long discussion on sharks.
