New Pelosi Book Offers Advice on Leadership
All eyes were on House Speaker Nancy Pelosi this week, as lawmakers transmitted the articles of impeachment against President Donald Trump. Her daughter Christine, who is a political strategist, has written a book about her mother and is in Honolulu for an event. The book is called the "Nancy Pelosi Way: Advice on Success, Leadership and Politics from America’s Most Powerful Woman." Christine told us about her mother raising her kids trained her for Congress. Christine will be signing books tonight, Friday, Jan. 17 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Tommy Holmes Community Gathering Space, Planned Parenthood of Honolulu Health Center, 839 South Beretania Street. Frank De Lima's 12 Days of Impeachment
Impeachment is serious business and but some people may be suffering from impeachment fatigue. We invited funny man Frank De Lima to put a smile on our face. Over the holidays he debuted his Impeachment song -- its a fundraiser for his nonprofit group that works in schools across the state. It's to the tune of the 12 Days of Christmas.
Lawsuit filed against Mid-Pacific Institute after death of 5-year-old
A kayaking excursion to Kaaawa Beach during a 2019 spring break kids’ day camp run by Mid-Pacific Institute that resulted in the death of a 5-year-old boy was an unplanned detour from the scheduled itinerary, according to a lawsuit filed Thursday by the boy’s parents. Keeping the government open and transparent
The Governor, House Speaker and Senate President put out a united front on key issues they will be looking to advance this session. That seems like a good thing - like coming together last year to try and tackle our housing and homeless crisis, but one watchdog group wonders if there hasn’t been some horsetrading on issues that the public doesn’t know about yet. Common Cause executive director Sandy Ma tells us what the open government advocacy group is watching this legislative session.
New approach for counting Oahu's homeless
Laura Thielen is the new executive director of Partners in Care. (She is not to be confused with Sen. Laura Thielen, who is her sister-in-law.) Partners-in-Care is the group charged with the point in time count for the homeless on Oahu. The count takes place next week Thursday from 4 am to 11 am, and the group is still looking for volunteers. Click here for more information.
