Senator Mazie Hirono: She is the first Asian-American woman elected to the Senate, and the first U.S. senator born in Japan. For almost 40 years she has served Hawaii’s voters, first in the State House of Representatives, later as Lt. Governor and as a member of the US House of Representatives.
