State Legislators Unveil Affordable Housing Initiative

House Bill 2748, dubbed the Bob Nakata Act, recognizes the former state senator and lobbyist for his many years of affordable housing advocacy. At a news conference yesterday legislators said they made good on their resolve to do something bold to address the shortage of affordable rental housing.

KCC’s Hawai'i Cook Apprentice Program

Kapi'olani Community College has expanded the Hawai'i Restaurant Manager Apprentice program by offering free instruction to aspiring chefs. Marcus Fikse is the Program Coordinator. The next session runs from May 25 - December 16. Apprentices must be currently working in a kitchen at a restaurant or other food-service operation. Classes include: Safety & Sanitation, Menu Planning, Culinary Nutrition and Intro to Food Service in addition to a weekly lab class in the kitchen.
