Two years ago, the plight of the low-lying island nation of Kiribati was the focus of the message from the country’s then president, Anote Tong. At the Pacific Risk Management 'Ohana or PRiMO conference he detailed how Kiribati is rapidly losing ground to sea level rise; and how the entire population of 100,000 plus is planning migration away from their disappearing home. President Tong is back at the PRiMO conference this year with an update and to join Blue Planet Foundation founder Henk Rogers in announcing a new initiative to help Pacific island nations achieve 100% renewable energy and build resilience. President Tong is in our studio this morning.

All kinds of kids are drawn to the performing arts; some are shy, some are extroverted, but they’re drawn to the stage, and some get the bug early. The people at Honolulu for Youth have had ample opportunities to watch the different ways stage-struck kids develop into grown theater artists, and have created youth drama programs for different age groups. The programs are running this summer, and Lily Brennick, Assistant Director of Drama Education for Honolulu Theater for Youth, is here to tell us about them.

Maybe you've had a conversation with an elder in your family who has marveled at all she has seen in her long life... and maybe it’s easy to believe that with the great growth of technology in the 20th century, many more giant leaps are just ahead of us. Not entirely so according to ‘The Rise and Fall of American Growth,’ out this year by economist Robert Gordon. Our contributing editor Neal Milner has had a look and joins us now.
