Martin Luther King Jr. Day Conversation: Father Walter Brownridge
Today is the 30th anniversary of the holiday celebrating Martin Luther King. Not all states marked the day in 1986… that didn’t happen until 2000. With each year bringing younger generations further from the work of Dr. King and closer to selected ideas, how to keep the fullness of his message often frustrates those who know better. On this day celebrating the birthday of Dr. King, who would have been 80 last Friday, we picked up our periodic conversation with the Dean of the Cathedral of St. Andrew, the Very Reverend Walter Brownridge.

When Strangers Meet: Jeanette Paulson Hereniko
Jeannette Paulson Hereniko is a film producer, storyteller, and the Founding Director of the Hawaii International Film Festival, living the kind of life that becomes its own source of theatrical material. It makes sense, then, that those stories should be crafted into a one-woman show, and hers is called. When Strangers Meet. Hereniko will perform the play Saturday, January 30th, at the Honolulu Museum of Art’s Doris Duke Theater.

Republican Minority Caucus: Beth Fukumoto Chang
You probably grew up hearing the phrase about good things coming in small packages. Hawaii’s seven member Minority Caucus is hoping that will be true of ideas to move Hawaii’s housing and employment solutions into reality. The caucus has released its priorities and Minority Leader Beth Fukumoto Chang joined The Conversation via phone with a look at them.

Murder Blood Bear Story: Katelyn Schiller
The search for happiness can often give us more than we bargained for, and will definitely take us to some unexpected places. Playwright and performer Katelyn Schiller gives her search dramatic form in her one-woman show, Murder Blood Bear Story. It’s the story of a young woman who hopes for a close encounter with a bear, not quite knowing where it will take her. Schiller will perform the play January 22nd through 24th at the Historic Iao Theater in Wailuku, Maui as part of the Maui Fringe Theater Festival.
