Earlier this month the Hawaii Public Utilities Commission decided to end net metering for solar customers who already have systems or had their documents filed as of October 12th. That ended the possibility of market value credit for energy produced and replaced it with new programs that HECO prefers and says is more fair. But the decision has drawn the ire of many in the solar industry, including the group Alliance for Solar Choice. Robert Harris is the public policy director for solar company Sunrun and a representative of the Alliance and he joined The Conversation via phone to comment.

Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night: Claire Fallon

Back in Elizabethan times, all the actors were male and it’s difficult to imagine how Shakespeare’s most vivid female characters could have been played by men. But the Bard loved to play with gender roles, and he really let his imagination run wild in Twelfth Night, a frothy comedy where boys become girls and vice versa, and amorous misunderstanding is the order of the day.   St. Andrew’s Priory drama director Claire Fallon has added an element of confusion to a play that thrives on confusion by presenting Shakespeare’s most accessible comedy with an all-female cast.   Just keeping track of who’s who must have been a challenge and Claire joined the show to tell us how she pulled it off. Twelfth Night runs at Tenney Theater in downtown Honolulu from November 13th through the 15th.

September 11th, 2001 brought the best and the worst of humanity into sharp relief, as heroes emerged from the horror and people were able to call upon an extra measure of courage in the service of others. K9 Officer Isaac Ho’opi’i, a Waianae native stationed at the Pentagon, was one of the heroes, helping people escape from the burning building at great risk to himself.  For all he did that day, Isaac has been haunted ever since by the thought that he could have done even more, and Maria Bissell is producing a documentary to tell his story.
