Affordable Housing in Kaka‘ako: Kevin Carney
Walk through the Ward area in Honolulu and if you’ve lived in or near the area for a while, you probably don’t recognize it. New condo towers are quickly replacing former retail space. While many are of the luxury variety, some are slated for affordable units. But affordability plus Kaka’ako often brings up questions about who can even afford the units and how well the area will ultimately be income mixed? Tomorrow night, residents, the city, and affordable housing developer EAH will meet to consider those questions. Kevin Carney, VP of EAH Housing Hawai‘i, will be there and he joined The Conversation prior to that to share his thoughts. The Kakaako meeting happens tomorrow at 5:30pm at the HCDA offices on Queen Street.

Nightmare Ong King Street: Mr. Aaron
You can’t always predict what comedian Mr. Aaron will get up to. He’s an improv artist, so being unpredictable is part of his job description. His take on Halloween is called Nightmare Ong King Street, in honor of his Chinatown base of operations. It’s billed as a comedy torture show -- and what actually gets performed is very much up to the audience. Mr. Aaron is the guiding spirit of Think Fast Improv, and the 2nd Annual "A Nightmare Ong King Street" Comedy Torture Show takes place this Saturday at the Ong King Art Center in Honolulu’s Chinatown.

PUC Listening Session on HECO-NexEra Deal: Henry Curtis
There has been a lot of conversation about NextEra Energy’s proposed $4.3 billion acquisition of Hawaiian Electric Co. Over the last month, the Public Utilities Commission has been taking it all in. At the base of concerns is the issue of whether Hawaii will see real benefit from the merger or if it will only benefit the companies. Life of the Land has long opposed the deal. Henry Curtis is the Executive Director of the organization, and he joined the show with an update on where things are now. The last PUC listening session on the HECO-NextEra deal happens tomorrow in Honolulu at 6pm in the McKinely High School cafeteria.

Singer and entertainer Dana Land is an expert at suiting an evening of music to a special occasion, throwing costumes and comedy into the mix… so Halloween, coming up this Saturday, is a natural for her. She’s celebrating with an evening of jazz she calls Spooktacular. The show takes place at Medici’s in the Mano’a Marketplace this Saturday.
