Translating a 15 year old law into a workable process for both patients and medical marijuana dispensaries is bringing growing pains for the state. This week’s string of meetings to explain how both processes are developing continues with today’s medi-pot dispensary seminar at the Hawaii State Bar Association convention. Mitzi Vaughn is the Managing Attorney for Greenbridge Corporate Counsel, a transactional law firm dedicated to cannabis industry clients in California and Washington. She’ll be speaking at  today’s seminar and she joined The Conversation prior to that for a brief discussion.

Acapella singers know they’re going out on a limb, with no instruments in sight to anchor them, but they have each other, as Sweet Adeline choral groups around the country are reminded every time they get together. The local Sweet Adelines are represented by the Honolulu Blend Show Chorus, which has put together its annual show to evoke the feeling they get when they sing. It’s called Happiness is… and chorus member Gail Higaki joined the show via phone to tell us about it.

Demand for Moratorium on Collecting Aquarium Fish: Joseph Shacat

This week, two state agencies and 16 environmental groups asked for a 6 month moratorium to help Hawai‘i’s reefs. Letters to  Department of Land and Natural Resources Chair Suzanne Case from Jessica Wooley, the outgoing  head of the Hawaii Office of Environmental Quality Control and members of the state Environmental Council cite the effects of climate change…. notably record high temperatures, ocean acidification and rampant coral bleaching. Environmental Council Chair Joseph Shacat was in our studio yesterday and we asked him if the worsening condition of the reefs is making a greater case to those who say they make their livelihoods collecting fish.

  • Outro Music:  Casting Out The Nines by Dub Trio
