Hawaii Island Energy Options: Richard Ha
Many communities across Hawaii are wondering what their energy future may look like. Yesterday we considered an effort by the UH Law School’s new energy justice program to help Oahu’s North Shore to have a conversation with itself. But on Hawaii Island, a more formal conversation happens next week with listening sessions organized by the Public Utilities Commission, ostensibly to gauge community response to the Next Era/Hawaiian Electric Industries proposed merger. The Hawaii Island Energy Cooperative plans to be there. The group has been exploring what it would take to create, run and own a utility to serve Hawaii Island. Farmer and HIEC President, Richard Ha joined the show to tell us more about it.

Why Smart Men Do the Same Dumb Things: Dr. Rosalie K. Tatsuguchi
After centuries of trying to figure one another out, the only thing men and women can be sure of is that we’re wired very differently… but how did we get that way? Dr. Rosalie K. Tatsuguchi is a psychiatrist who has some theories to advance about the way men are wired and why they can often be our own worst enemy. They’re in her book Why Smart Men Do the Same Dumb Things: a Warrior’s Manual for Change. Dr. Tatsuguchi will be signing copies Saturday morning at the Moiilili Hongwanji Bazaar and a book signing and seminar the following Saturday at the Buddhist Study Center in Honolulu.

Former Utah State Homelessness Coordinator: Lloyd Pendleton
Lloyd S. Pendleton is the former Director of Utah’s Homeless Task Force. For more than thirteen years Lloyd has been an advocate for the homeless. In 2004 as a loaned executive from the LDS Church, he took the lead in writing and implementing the State of Utah’s Ten-Year Plan for ending chronic homelessness. In 2006, Lloyd retired from his Church employment and went to work for the state as Director of the Homeless Task Force to continue implementation of the plan to end chronic homelessness and reduce overall homelessness by 2015. Lloyd is a graduate of Brigham Young University and holds a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science and a Masters of Business Administration.
