Update on the Ka Iwi Coastline: Elizabeth Reilly
Drive around Hawaii Kai and you see the signs: Save Ka Iwi Mauka. The effort directed by Livable Hawaii Kai Hui has until August 30th to raise the last of the $4 million needed to purchase 182 acres above the Ka Iwi coast. That amounted to 500 thousand dollars earlier this month. If the group is successful, Livable Hawaii Kai Hui will manage the property. Elizabeth Reilly is its President and she joined the show with an update.

Teaching Sculpture: Lynn Liverton
If you had to create a sculpture, how would you start? Would you build out, as you do with clay, or build in, as with carving wood or stone? Most of us wouldn’t have much of a clue, which is what makes Lynn Liverton’s sculpture classes so valuable. Whether you build out or in, you have to find a way to re-create your vision in three dimensions, and that poses some challenges of its own. Lynn Liverton teaches sculpture at Honolulu Waldorf School and she joined the show to tell us about some of her techniques.

State-sponsored Race-based Election Lawsuit: Robert Popper
As we headed into the weekend, conservative foundation Judicial Watch filed a lawsuit against the state of Hawaii, Office of Hawaiian Affairs trustees and other “agents of the state." At issue is the race and perspective-based eligibility of voters to elect delegates for the native Hawaii constitutional convention. That election is slated for this fall. Judicial Watch worked in concert with local group Grassroot Institute of Hawaii which says the election violates the U.S. Constitution and Voting Rights Act. Robert Popper is the director of the Judicial Watch Election Integrity Project and joined the show via phone.

Atherton Concert and New Album, “Learning You by Heart”: Stephen Inglis
Guitarist Stephen Inglis grew up with a cross-current of musical influences to draw from, absorbing slack key, rock ‘n’ roll, and a wide variety of acoustic and electric styles along the way. The result can only be called “Americana” and that’s how he describes it on his new album “Learning You By Heart.” He’s performing songs from that new effort this Saturday in our Atherton studio, and he joined the show prior to that for a preview.
