Do women learn better from other women? The East-West Center’s Changing Faces Seminar is banking on that. It's also hosting the First Annual #galswithLEI Forum. International businesswomen and social entrepreneurs will gather on Oahu and Maui for leadership training and one on one mentorship meetings with local businesswomen. A former Jakarta magazine industry editor turned furniture business owner, Intan Iskandar, will be among them.

You can’t beat the story of Oliver Twist for suffering and redemption.   Charles Dickens was unsurpassed at putting his characters through hell and rejoicing with us when virtue eventually triumphs.   It’s a perfect story for a musical, and for a cast of mostly kids, which is why Lionel Bart’s Oliver! is the Maui Academy of Performing Arts’ Summer Musical Theatre Camp production this year.  Sally Sefton is the production’s director.

Much of the public attention recently has focused on the TMT project on Mauna Kea and the proposed expansion of the Maunalua Bay marine sanctuary off East Oahu. But two young men on Kauai are staging their own protest over a proposed Princeville development. That's one of the issues faced by residents on the garden island. Kauai journalist Joan Conrow has a list of others and she joined the show with an overview.
