Honolulu Magazine’s Talking Trash: Robbie Dingeman
For decades, most of us have been drilled in the three Rs: reduce, reuse, and recycle. But where exactly does all that recycled stuff go once you put your bottle, can, plastic or paper into a designated bin? Could be the same place as everything else you throw out. Honolulu Magazine took a look at why some state officials now think we should recycle less and editor Robbie Dingeman joined the show to talk about it.

Can there be a conversation about the future of Maunalua Bay that won't pit environmentalists against bay users? So far, the NOAA proposal to expand the Humpback Whale Sanctuary has continued to divide the East Honolulu community. Representative Gene Ward hopes to mitigate the divisiveness tomorrow night at a town hall meeting cosponsored with the area’s elected officials. Representative Gene Ward is with us this morning to talk about Maunalua Bay and the agenda for tomorrow’s town hall meeting.

Koloa Plantation Days: Phyllis Kunimura
The Koloa District on Kauai, from Koloa town to Poipu on the South Shore, is filled with memories of old Hawaii. From the tree tunnel of century-old eucalyptus trees to the plantation style of Koloa town itself, you can’t help but be reminded of days gone by. The memories will be strong this weekend as the annual Koloa Plantation Days celebration gets under way, complete with a parade, rodeo events, and plenty of opportunity to get to know the town where Hawaii’s sugar industry was born. Phyllis Kunimura is part of the team putting it all together, and she joined the show to tell us more.
