Ralph Cossa is president of the Pacific Forum CSIS, a Honolulu, Hawaii-based foreign policy research institute affiliated with the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) in Washington, DC. He is also senior editor of the Forum’s quarterly electronic journal, Comparative Connections. He is the primary US representative and former international co-chair of the ASEAN Regional Forum Experts and Eminent Persons Group, as well as a founding member and current co-chair of the multinational Council for Security Cooperation in the Asia Pacific (CSCAP). He is a political/military affairs and national security specialist with more than 40 years of experience in formulating, articulating, and implementing U.S. security policy in the Asia-Pacific.

Journey of Heroes: Stacey Hayashi
The story of the 100th Infantry Battalion and the 442nd Regimental Combat Team, Hawaii-born heroes of the Second World War, deserves to be kept alive and it continues to yield lessons for young people. By telling their story in manga form, Stacey Hayashi is finding a new audience for an inspiring message. She’s the creator of the manga Journey of Heroes and she joined the show to tell us about it.

Maui Cane Burning: Keith Kawaoka
Dr. Keith Kawaoka is the deputy director of Environmental Health at the Hawaii State Department of Health. He has worked in environmental protection for 35 years, and was previously the program manager with the Department of Health’s Hazard Evaluation and Emergency Response Office.

You can’t help but envy the life of an underwater photographer who is often surrounded by spectacular subject matter. Their craft combines serious scuba-diving and image-capturing skills in an environment that demands undivided attention. Kauai photographer Thomas Green, AKA Scuba Tom, has not only created a large body of stunning underwater work, he’s also started a gallery to display it. He joined the show for a discussion of what it takes to capture a great underwater photo.
