Growth and Changes in Maui’s Businesses: Dick Mayer
What makes Maui so attractive might be a question for the almost 8,200 residents added to the County's population in the last 4 years. Those new residents, mostly international and mainland transplants, account for Maui's fastest growth among the counties at 5.3 %. Kauai is next in line with a 5% gain. But is the way Maui County has grown what Maui County planning commissioners envisioned? Dick Mayer is a former member of the commission and former vice chair of Maui’s General Plan Advisory Committee. With four decades of experience trying to grow Maui in a constructive, sustainable way, he isn't shy about discussing what he sees now.

Craig Symonds is the author of the Battle of Midway. He’s a Professor Emeritus at the United States Naval Academy where he taught naval history and Civil War History for 30 years. Changing the Structure of Maui County's Government: Mark Hyde
This next conversation surrounds a not so favorite topic… change. Most people don't like it, and are resistant to it, even when it might be for the better. But what about changing the type of local government for which you vote? A group on Maui is proposing that municipal government change from a mayor-council structure to a council-manager structure. Community advocate Mark Hyde says that would take the politics out of policy making.
