This month, several attempts by inmates to escape from furlough work programs have brought controversy to whether (and how) inmates should be monitored. Some of those escapees are the clients of the WorkNet program. Among their projects, WorkNet has been the on-site vocational specialists for Laumaka Furlough Center for more than 10 years. Chas Williams is the Founder and Executive Director of WorkNet.

Invasive species create untold damage in Hawaii, whether on land or in the ocean… and often species imported with the best of intentions are the worst offenders.   Today several species of marine algae, some of them introduced here for aquaculture, are out of control, choking the reef and creating a huge removal and disposal problem.   Ariana Kim, a St. Andrews Priory junior and a classmate have come up with an innovative solution to an environmental challenge. A solution they’re taking to the International Science and Engineering Fair in Pittsburgh next month.

Looking around Oahu, it’s easy to see the landscape is changing. It seems there are cranes everywhere and the buildings springing up in well known places are making those areas appear and feel different. While it’s tempting to conjecture about who is buying the new spaces, Honolulu Magazine decided to look at the data to answer this question “who owns O‘ahu?” Editor of Honolulu Magazine, Robbie Dingeman, joined the show to tell us what she found.
