Do you have a singer inside you hoping to be released? Many of us do, but we’re held back from singing anywhere but the shower by a lack of confidence, a lack of technique, or possibly both. Dolly Kanekune is a Kauai-based vocal coach who helps students overcome those internal barriers and learn to sing out. She’s teaching group singing classes at Kauai Community College, and she joined the show via phone to tell us more about them.

- Outro Music: Vocal Chords by Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr.
Charter School Bills: Lynn Finnegan
Several bills still advancing in the legislature focus on charter schools. Many of them look at the issues of closure and options for students and facilities involved in a school closure, repurposing of other facilities and making the probationary period for a charter school teacher the same as any other DOE instructor. There could also be a charter school facilities funding working group created within the department of education to advise on charter school facilities funding. The head of the Hawaii Public Charter Schools Network, Lynn Finnegan, is watching those bills and others and she's on the line now.

Historical fiction can do much to fill in the blanks in factual accounts, especially when you think about the day-to-day lives of people affected by changing events. Maui author Wayne Moniz has written a novel that looks at native Hawaiian participation in the American Civil War through the eyes of an imagined character, and in the process, given us a fresh look at a forgotten chapter of history. He’s on the line to talk about Pukoko: A Hawaiian in the American Civil War.
