Gas and Oil Price Decline: Dave Rolf

So okay, predictions that the national average for a gallon of gas could near $2.50 by Christmas might not make you feel better about Hawaii's prices. At an average of $3.75, our state’s  per gallon cost tops the nation... but it’s been decreasing, too. With end of the year car and truck sales in full swing, are the current lower prices making less gas efficient vehicles including SUVs more attractive? That's been happening on the mainland and we called Dave Rolf, Executive director of the Hawaii Automobile Dealers Association, to ask him about it.

Ron Artis II and his many siblings have been immersed in the arts all their lives, in a house full of musical instruments, painting materials - every creative tool you can imagine.   It has paid off with a creative output that includes original songs and videos in a never-ending stream.   We’re asking musical friends to bring in music for the holidays, and we knew Ron would be up for some in-studio jamming.

Do e-cigarettes hinder addiction to the traditional variety or have they opened a new market for a new addiction? A UH Cancer Center study out today shows it could be the latter. Almost 2000 9th and 10th graders make up the study meant to assess e-cigarette and cigarette use, alcohol and marijuana use, and psychosocial risk among other variables. In Hawaii, nearly 30% of the teens surveyed have used e-cigarettes and many thought they were healthier than regular cigarettes... that compares to 10% nationally.

A little overindulgence of the dietary variety is to be expected during the holidays -- especially with temptations at every turn.   But what is there to do about the guilt that follows?   This might be good time to get a jump on those inevitable New Year’s resolutions to work out more -- by starting now with free fitness classes.   UH-Maui is offering them in a dizzying variety, and Student Life Coordinator Francine Ching told us more.
