Sit-lie Bill Expansion Signed, Bill 62: H. Doug Matsuoka
For a homeless person in many districts on Oahu, 5am to 11pm may now be less than favorite hours. As of last week, the bill that prohibits sitting or lying on sidewalks in Waikiki now covers 14 other areas and if a bill scheduled for hearing on Wednesday continues to move, there will be other places where sitting or lying will be prohibited. Advocates for the homeless opposed the initial bill and ramped up efforts to counter the expansion. H Doug Matsuoka is among them - he's chronicled legislation affecting the homeless for the last three years and he joined the show this morning to share his thoughts.

Pearl Harbor Evacuees Book: James Lee
We can only imagine the fear and uncertainty people in Hawaii woke up to 73 years ago today, in the wake of the Pearl Harbor attack. For all anyone knew, the attack was the prelude to an invasion. The wives and children of those who were killed were suddenly isolated, far from home and out of place. Historian James Lee looks at the story of those civilians in his book SAFE PASSAGE: the Civilian Evacuation from Hawaii after Pearl Harbor, and he joined us by phone.
