Global Food Security: Dr. Thomas Lumpkin

Thomas Lumpkin

Thomas Lumpkin is the director general of the International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center. Known by its Spanish acronym, CIMMYT, the Mexico-based non-profit research and training organization based in Mexico works to improve crops and agricultural practices from Afghanistan to Zimbabwe. Before joining CIMMYT, Dr. Lumpkin headed another non-profit agricultural institute, the Taiwan-based World Vegetable Center, and chaired the Global Horticulture Initiative Board of Directors. He has also worked on rice and vegetable production in India as a Peace Corps volunteer.

Pahoa Lava Flow Check-In: Tiffany Edwards Hunt

On Hawaii Island, the leading edge of lava is still stalled as it has been over the last 10 days. Today the front remains about 480 feet from the Pahoa Village Road. That's small comfort for many Pahoa residents as more breakouts from the main flow happened over the weekend. The evacuation advisory continues for down slope residents with upslope breakouts. For Pahoa resident Tiffany Edwards Hunt and her family, daily life includes vigilance over everything that has happened since the June 27 flow began. We've checked in with her over that past few months.

BANDALOOP: Choreographer, Amelia Rudolph

Amelia Rudolph is the Artistic Director and founder of BANDALOOP, a troupe that combines dance, climbing, and off-the-ground movement through what it calls “site-reactive” work on cliffs, buildings, and in theaters.   BANDALOOP will perform Sunday evening, November 16th, at the Maui Arts and Cultural Center’s Castle Theater.
