Oahu Publishing Buys HI Tribune-Herald & West Oahu Today: John Hart
Less than 24 hours ago, word came that newspaper magnate David Black was adding two more dailies to his Hawaii stable. Black’s Oahu Publishing Inc. announced it is purchasing the Hawaii Tribune-Herald and West Oahu Today. They’ll join Kauai's Garden Island newspaper acquired last year and flagship composite paper, The Honolulu Star Advertiser, which was created when Black’s group purchased the Honolulu Advertiser from Gannett four years ago. Media watcher and Hawaii Pacific University professor, John Hart, joined the show with a look at how this latest Hawaii newspaper consolidation fits into the national context.

Destin Daniel Cretton is the director of “Short Term 12,” a feature-length film that focuses on the employees of a center for at-risk teenagers. The original short version will be given a free showing tonight at UH-Manoa’s Art Auditorium at 7 p.m. Destin Daniel Cretton will also lead an upcoming weekend Pacific New Media workshop called “From Shorts to Features.”
