Innovative Agriculture Technology: Vincent Kimura
It was the first sentence of a conversation query that intrigued us : “Everything we’ve been taught about farming is incorrect.” Those were the words of Vincent Kimura. He’s the Managing Partner of The Inovi Group whose project is working with microbes to increase produce growth and yield. Vincent Kimura will be presenting a paper on their method at the Asia Pacific Resilience Innovation Summit over the next few days and he joined us this morning. The Asia Pacific Resilience Innovation Summit is today through Wednesday at the Hawaii Convention Center.

Sand Island Homeless Camp: Larry Geller
In the world of homelessness, last week was intense. The sit-lie bill was approved by the Honolulu City Council… also the plan to use Sand Island as a temporary camp. The meetings drew the spectrum of advocates both for the homeless and for the hotel industry which has been pushing the ban on sitting or lying on sidewalks. Those who speak for the homeless say the Sand Island plan is fraught with problems, including the site itself. Larry Geller and his blog, Disappeared News, has taken a critical look at the City’s proposal and he joined the show to discuss.

Emma’s Last Dance: David Penhallow Scott
Most accounts of life in Hawaii in the pre-Second World War years portray life in the plantation-dominated Territory as settling into a kind of easy rhythm…. one that was forever disrupted by Pearl Harbor. David Penhallow Scott’s play Emma’s Last Dance looks at sugar plantation society before, during, and after that attack from the perspective of his own childhood memories. He’s both author and director of the Kaua’i Women in Theatre production, and he joined the show via phone. Emma’s Last Dance will be performed September 26th through the 28th at Kaua’i Community College Performing Arts Center.
