Resolution 452-14, HI County Incinerator: Mayor Billy Kenoi
What to do with Hawai`i Island's solid waste has long been an issue for the county and its mayor. A request for proposal from vendors has drawn fire from the public and a couple Council members, and no less fire has been returned from Mayor Billy Kenoi, who joined the show this morning to provide his thoughts on the situation.

Joy of Sake: Kyle Itani from Hopscotch Restaurant
Saké, the rice wine from Japan, used to be an exotic curiosity in the world of American cuisine. Now, it’s creeping into the mainstream as more and more chefs discover ways to pair it with food, and as they learn more about the variety of flavors sake can offer. Kyle Itani is the head chef at Hopscotch Restaurant in Oakland, California, which serves American food with a Japanese sensibility. He’s in town for this weekend’s Joy of Sake event, and he joined us this morning in our studios.

Potato Salad Kickstarter and Donors’ Relationship with Money: Brad Klontz
Most cooks have a favorite potato salad recipe and they might even share it. What they probably won't do is ask you to fund the purchase of the ingredients so they can make it. But a recent campaign on Kickstarter did just that and whether you want to chalk up the 50 thousand dollars raised by 61 hundred donors to a joke, a test of our collective goodwill, or even stupidity, the campaign has made a lot of people wonder: couldn't the donors have found something more worthy to fund? Financial psychologist Brad Klontz says it all comes down to our relationship to our money.

Hawai`i Island Abled Hawai`i Art Festival: Mar Ortaleza
Labels can imprison us, and there are no more confining labels than those attached to the disabled community. Terms like handicapped, wheelchair-bound, the word “disabled” itself… They seem to emphasize what people can’t do over what they can, and that’s why this weekend’s Hawai`i Island 7th Annual Abled Hawai`i Art Festival is so significant. Mar Ortaleza, Employment Services Coordinator for the Center for Disabliity Studies, is putting the event together, and he joined the show by phone. The festival is at the Hawaii Museum of Contemporary Art in Hilo this Saturday from 10 am to 3 pm.
